2013 Western Canadian Holistic Conference

the banner that greeted us in the front
lobby of the hotel!
Dennis and I have waited for a year to go to this conference and we finally made it! This years conference was in Russell, Manitoba - just over an hour and a half away from us. It was from February 12-13 but on the 11th there was a wine and cheese in the evening -- so of course we had to get there early to experience that!

We had an early start the next morning (8:30am) at the local community centre. There were many speakers all sharing different information with us and keeping us laughing and smiling! There were 170 people that attended this years conference (apparently down from last year of 200)

I took pictures of things as we went thru our day, on my phone (I did take my camera but didnt want to introduce my crazy picture taking side too early to these wonderful people -- maybe next year!lol) so the pics are small and from the back of the tables (where we sat).

Susie O. sharing her experiences as a farmers wife! 'Kids, Crops, Sows & Cows; Life Happens- Learn To Bounce' was her Motivational talk topic!

Susie's  4 P's of Prosperity and sharing how to 'bouce' when life happens!
Her website for more info is http://www.susieo.com

This lady(and sorry I dont remember her name)
had stood in for Marten Entz (he had to be away) and it was about
the research on cover crops and how it helps the soil!

One of 3 break out sessions. This one was on the human resources of holistic living: the most important aspect of your farm is YOU! This session was led by Ralph and Linda Corcoran - they were our educators when we took the Holistic Management Course in 2012. (I took this session , while Dennis took the Land Planning session ... and he forgot to take pictures! :P)

Banquet Dinner on Tuesday night! Great food (and looooots of it!!), awesome entertainment and wonderful people to share it all with!!

Fine example of the dessert at the banquet -- Tiramisu...mmmmmm

Feb 12 - Belmont Date Night Club! This is one awesome group! Their groups all begin with a sharing circle, time for discussion on various pre-planned topics, refreshments, sometimes field tours and lots of laughs! The best example I have ever seen or heard of for a group! Everyone we spoke with after their presentation was jealous and inspired to get their group to this level of trust and friendship!!

Kids on the Land! If you had younger children there was a program arranged for them to be involved with while parents were at their own end of things! This was their presentation of what they did over the two days! Pictures drawn and a bag of worms!
Dennis and I had a VERY enjoyable time learning, meeting and talking with other producers who are working in a like minded direction with regards to not only their farms but also in life! Not everyone here was doing exactly the same thing but they were all working towards the goal of creating a healthy land base, happy cattle and most important a healthy, happy relationship with family and friends!
We met many people in various stages of holistic management and we found encouragement in this that we arent the only ones out here doing this! (because truthfully some days it really feels like it!)
Now the challenge is to take all that we learned and decide what is going to work for us as a farm and family this next year implement it into our day to day.
